Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins:

Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine’s epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe.

Directed by Gavin Hood from a David Benioff, the action-thriller co-stars Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Will.i.am, Danny Huston, Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Henney and Lynn Collins.

Wolverine come out May 1, 2009.

The mutant known as Wolverine breaks off into his off spin-off film from the successful X-MEN! franchise. Hugh Jackman (X1, X2, Van Helsing) returns as Logan/ Wolverine-A mutant with regenerative powers, three claws on each hand and a skeleton all laced with the rare metal known as adamantium. Logan struggles to find the secrets to his past. After learning little information through the help of Charles Xavier (X2’s Patrick Stewart), Logan takes his search even further by learning the full truth of his origin, while also heading in a bold, new direction.

Hugh Jackman reprises his Wolverine/Logan character form the three “X-Men” films. He’ll be playing a younger version of his character, which, considering that Wolverine doesn’t actually age, will be interesting to see how they reflect the “young” Wolverine in cinematic terms.

The prequel was said to also explore Wolverine’s participation in the Weapon X program — the secretive experiment that gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton and claws, and which wiped away his memory, thus setting the feral mutant on quests to discover his past. This has been a great source of anguish for Wolverine in the comics, and was as well in the first two “X-Men” films.

Sabretooth -Liev Schreiber (unconfirmed)
Variety originally reported that Schreiber was in negotiations to play a young Stryker, Wolverine’s human arch-nemesis, as played by Brian Cox in “X-Men 2: X-Men United”. Variety has not followed up that report, but CHUD has now reported that their sources within the studio claims that Schreiber will indeed be a part of “Wolverine” — except as Sabretooth, Wolverine’s mutant arch-nemesis.
As of right now, this seems to be a sure bet — or at least as “sure” as anything can be when it originates on the net.

Wolverine will be a prequel to the X-Men saga. It will center on the origins of the superhero with animal-like reflexes, an alloy skeletal system and the ability to heal from virtually any wound. He also could use a friend.

Hugh Jackman recently dropped a few hints about what fans can expect to see in Wolverine movie. The project is a prequel that reportedly details Logan’s back-story in the Weapon X program and his first encounter with Sabretooth. Logan is also expected to have a new love interest. In an interview with WizardUniverse.com, Jackman downplayed the notion that Logan’s past adventures in Japan might also be a part of the film.

“[The Japan connection] is still something we really want to do. “What we need to do is establish who he is and find out how he became Wolverine. And by the end of the movie, I want it to be that you definitely knew who this guy was, like Mad Max and Dirty Harry. He’s a good guy, but he’s not a nice guy. He’s just the guy you want on your side.”

WizardUniverse’s sources indicated the film would see Logan in Vietnam and might include cameos by comic book characters such as John Wraith, better known as the mutant teleporter Kestrel, and Fred J. Dukes, a.k.a. The Blob.

Kestrel was a member of the CIA’s covert ops Team X along with Wolverine, Sabretooth, Maverick, Mastodon, and Silver Fox.

Wolverine is set to start shooting in November and relese 2008.
