Warner Bros has announced that McG’s Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins will hit theaters on May 22nd 2009. Terminator 4 begins production in New Mexico for two months on May 5th.

Christian Bale stars as John Connor alongside Sam Worthington (Avatar) in the first of a three film story arc which follows a group of survivors led by John Connor as they struggle to stop the machines after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust.

No Country for Old Men star Josh Brolin might be cast as the new Terminator in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

According to McG:

“There’s guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don’t know if they’re exactly right at the end of the day,” McG smiles before telling Two-One-Three: “Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor - we’ll see.”

This is addition to the already officially announced Christian Bale as John Connor would certainly raise the level of talent in front of the camera in the start of this new science fiction trilogy.McG also gives an update on the preproduction process:

The upcoming fourth Terminator film, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins details revealed:

• John Conner (played by Christian Bale in the new film) is NOT the main character in the fourth film, but will have a more sizable role in the Fifth movie.

• The Main Character is a bad ass “Riddick”-like guy named Marcus (couldn’t they have come up with a better name?) who wakes up on post-apocalyptic earth, around 15 years before the future shown in the original Terminator. continue

With confirmation casting of Christian Bale as John Connor, everyone has been wondering about the storyline of the upcoming T4.  Bloody-Disgusting says they were given the official synopsis for the film, and it goes something like below…

The film is about John Connor (Christian Bale), now in his 30’s and soon to be wife Kate Brewster realize they must create a resistance organization with Earth’s remaining survivors against the army of robots slowly being built up by Skynet. The latest Terminator 4 rumor that is flying around the Internet is that Christian Bale will be assaying the role of an adult John Connor in the film.

We know Bale takes his shit seriously. And if you saw 3:10 TO YUMA… just imagine him coming out of his mountain and beginning the process of taking out SKYNET. With Bale as Conner - that means that we have a great chance that McG is pulling a chair up and will deliver. It all depends on that script… it is obvious we’re dealing now with an adult, GREAT MILITARY LEADER storyline … How he got the remnants of civilization together, trained them, armed them and began a guerilla war that eventually, we hope, brings down SKYNET.

The upcoming Terminator 4 movie now officially get a title: “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins”. This film set for an early 2008 production start date and a Summer 2009 release date. This is expected to be the first in an anticipated trilogy that will spin the Terminator franchise off into an entirely new direction, away from the Connor clan.

The “Charlie’s Angels” director McG being in talks to the direct the T4.

The latest comes from Duckie, who has been hearing buzzing about a name that is sort of attached to direct Terminator 4: McG.

This doesn’t mean McG IS directing Terminator 4, but that he’s in talks about it. The film is being set up as a pre-striker; the script just got turned in last week and the good people at The Halcyon Company would like to get this sucker into pre-production stat. Some talk had the movie shooting in the summer of 2008, but that’s right when the strike would start, so expect this bitch to be going before the cameras in the first months of the new year.

The plot details about the upcoming film that has been revealed online (via IGN):.

T4 will follow the events of T3 and be post-apocalyptic. It’s not known whether Nick Stahl and Claire Danes will return, but John Connor and Kate Brewster are in the script. Middleton said the participation of Stahl and Danes would depend on many factors, including the thoughts of the eventual director and others involved. Also, while John and Kate are part of the story, the movie will feature a new hero as the main character. Middleton likened it to how “Ben-Hur was influenced by Jesus Christ, but it was his story. Much in that way, this character will be influenced by John Connor.”

The plan is for this to be the first of three new movies, all of them set in this post-apocalyptic future and showing the war with the machines.
