Cloverfield follows five New Yorkers from the perspective of hand held video camera. The movie is exactly the length of a DV Tape and a sub-plot is established by showing bits and pieces of video previously recorded on the tape that is being recorded over. The movie starts as a monster of unknown origin destroys a building. As they go to investigate, parts of the building and the head of the Statue of Liberty come raining down. The movie follows their adventure trying to escape and save a friend, a love interest of the main character.

There are questions need to be answer in Cloverfield. Most of us thinking such as; Where did the monster come from? Did it come from outer space? Matt Reeves in an interview with Den of Geek says that the monster in “Cloverfield” was a baby monster!!
Below what he says:
So the secret that we had was that the monster was a baby. Having just been born it was going through separation anxiety and had no idea where its mother was and was freaking out and was in a completely foreign place, didn’t understand a thing and that that would be sending it into a kind of infantile rage. Which was very frightening, but the thing that was also frightening to me was the idea that not only was it going through an infantile rage but, because it was suffering from this separation anxiety, it was spooked. It was really afraid. And as the military started shooting at it, I started thinking, like if you were attacked by a swarm of bees for the first time, it wouldn’t necessarily kill you but you’d be terrified, you’d be like, “What are these things doing?!” And for me there’s nothing scarier than thinking of something that big that’s spooked. Like if you’re at the circus and suddenly the elephants are spooked, you don’t want to be anywhere near that, you’ll be crushed. And so that just became a way to again find an approach to giving an emotional or a grounded point of view to something that was completely outrageous. I mean a giant monster is absurd, but you have to find a way to make it real. And part of it was the stuff that Neville was doing, and then the secret that it was a baby. When we were talking about that I said, “Well, can’t we communicate something in the eyes?” So he started showing us like the look that horses have when they have that spooked look, and all of that was to convey that kind of feeling. So those are sort of the sources of it. We also really loved the idea that the creature in contrast to other creatures you might have seen was sort of a pale, white and again because it’s a baby, it’s just been born and it has this ugly translucence to its skin.

Cloverfield film’s director, Matt Reeves, is talking about a possible sequel, and he already has an idea what it could be about.
“There’s a moment on the Brooklyn Bridge, and there was a guy filming something on the side of the bridge, and Hud sees him filming and he turns over and he sees the ship that’s been capsized and sees the headless Statue of Liberty, and then he turns back and this guy’s briefly filming him.”

What did you think this J.J. Abrams’s and Matt Reeves’s Cloverfield film? Did the monster meet your expectations? Slashfilm.com readers commented of Cloverfiled movie, some them enjoy the movie very much some of them not. (I wanted to love Cloverfield. But it just didn’t happen. I’ve been calling this thing Blow-verfield, but another apt name is Cloverfail.) -theohiostateguy

LJ Says:
awsome sound was GREAT, and you really can’t get that hands on from any other movie (and no I didn’t see the Blair Witch Project). But like when they were in the tunnel and they turned on the night vision and that hole part was awsome. The movie after the first 20 min of the intro kept you guessing and didn’t know what was going to happen. I enjoyed it. And if you going to see it, key thing relize in the begging “video from FORMAL central park” Can’t remeber exactly how they said it but at the end when they all die I belive that they killed the thing because of that. I do wonder wether there will be a new one. I want to know what happend, also lets see it from after and were the black girl he plan doesn’t go down remember…. I think it was good and give it a 9 out of 10. I think it was worth it. Nothing else really like I thought one of the best parts was when the military was shooting at the thing and they have to get to the side, that was just amazing with the sound. one things for a fact you don’t want to watch this one online! And also I hate home made movies by people that can’t hold a camara but this I belive was good. But we will see what everyone thinks of it in a few days.

Here what Peter Sciretta said about Cloverfield movie (via slashfilm.com.)
There is more monster than I originally believed there would be. And yes, you do get to see him very very very close-up. He’s unlike any movie monster I’ve ever seen before. A very cool and unique design, and I think you’ll be pleased.
The sound design is incredible, I seriously wouldn’t be shocked if this got nominated for some sound related awards, possibly an Oscar (yes, seriously).
My biggest concern going into the film was about the characters. Would I really care about Rob and Beth and all the characters briefly shown running around in the trailer?
